It Begins! Obama Nails

Hello there! My name's Ali, and I will be your blogger for this evening.

I know, I know, but that's probably as good as it's going to get, introduction-wise. But, you know, if you're going to spend way too much money on nail polish all the time, why not turn it into a productive activity?

For my first post, I thought I'd do something a little bit different. I, like the majority of the voting public, was incredibly happy to have a hand in re-electing President Obama. But I found myself with a pressing question: how was I going to celebrate? Sure, there are the usual ways: flag-waving, confetti-throwing, getting incredibly drunk and freaking out about it with a bunch of other drunk people. I've done it all, but, come on. What kind of art student would I be if I went with the mainstream, maaaan? So, I present to you...OBAMA NAILS!

I used Essie's Butler, Please (blue); Sally Hansen's Diamonds and Rubies (red), and OPI's Alpine Snow (white, der), all with base and top coat.

Got a little red on me...whoops!

To apply the Obama symbol, I used a technique similar to the one for newspaper nails, except I printed them out on my computer. After the nail is completely dry, dip it in rubbing alcohol (or any type of clear liquor with a high alcohol content--for these, I used vodka. The first time I did newspaper nails, I used tequila lol). You probably want to put some alcohol on the symbol, too, just in case. Press the symbol firmly onto your nail for ten to fifteen seconds.

I left one of mine on for twice that, and you can see the damage.

Peel it off, and you should have a mirror image of the symbol. Paint over it with topcoat to insure longevity.

Woop! That's the first post. Hope y'all enjoyed it :)
